A
well constructed roof has a lifespan of decades, so if you’re a homeowner, then
getting a new roof installed correctly is a very important home improvement
project. There are plenty of roofing installers available, but only a handful
of quality roofing professionals. However, if you follow some basic rules, then
it should be fairly easy for you to select the best roofing contractor for your
home.
1.
Talk to Various Contractors – By
talking to different roofing contractors, you will be
able to compare and contrast their abilities and presentations. This will also help
you to gauge a reasonable price range for the project. Don’t avoid selecting
the lowest or the highest priced bid. If a contractor’s presentation, reputation, and quality is what you want, make
your choice based on the finished results desired, not the price.
2.
Check Credentials – Apart from
talking to different roofing contractors, you must make it a point to check
credentials of the shortlisted contractors. A reputable contractor will never
hesitate to provide references of his previous installations. If you are
satisfied with the feedback received from at least three references, go one
step further and check with
the Better Business Bureau (BBB), State Licensing Board and Online Reviews.
3.
Read the Contract Carefully – A
contract should be signed only after carefully reading and understanding each
and every section. An honest contractor will always understand that you need
time to review the contract thoroughly. He should also be willing to explain
any part of the contract that you may need further explanation on. The warranty
provided with the roof installation should also be in writing along with the details regarding both the labor and the
product (manufactures) warranty.
